River Wye cutting between Huntsham and Coppet Hills near Symonds Yat Rock

Molly and I went to the Forest of Dean for a short break, 10-11 November 2006.

We stayed at Dryslade Farm in English Bicknor - and highly recommend it (click here for their website), the best B&B we've ever stayed at.

On the first day, we walked in the Symonds Yat Rock area (mostly in Coldwell Woods and along the river Wye on the east side of the rock). After sunset we drove down the Wye as far as Tintern Abbey. On the second day we walked in Beechenhurst Woods, around Cannop Ponds, and near the Speech House. Oh, we also drove around to see if I could recognise places where I visited with relatives in The Pludds, Cinderford and elsewhere ... no success there, but it was fun trying. Nor did we see any of the wild pigs or deer that are reputed to thrive in the forest. However, the chief idea was to see the autumn colours - and that was a success!
